Sacramento County deputies are examining a gunfire incident that took place on April 18 2026 at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area at the moment Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were dissolving a large unsanctioned party of hundreds of attendees.
Prior to the Shooting
Sacramento County law enforcement were first dispatched to Howe Park at approximately half past six in the evening after being notified of individuals who may have had concealed firearms. Following that, another report was received concerning a possible fight occurring near the park.
Air support conducted an aerial sweep but came back with no confirmation of a fight. Regardless, it was evident that a massive group had come together at the location without permission.
When the Shots Rang Out
Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies started clearing the unauthorized gathering by encircling the gathering and issuing commands over loudspeakers ordering the hundreds present to clear out. Approximately 15 minutes were spent for attendees to disperse.
It was during this dispersal that 20 to 25 rounds of ammunition were discharged. The shots sent the crowd running in all directions. Deputies immediately began looking for those injured.
Four People Shot
When the dust settled, four gunshot victims were found to have been shot. The victims — a group of one female and three male victims all believed to be in their mid to late twenties — were transported to Sacramento area hospitals. Medical teams noted that two were treated for serious injuries, one person had injuries of a moderate nature, and one person's injuries were considered minor. Thankfully, each of the four victims was stable.
Sacramento fire crews arrived on scene and provided medical assistance shooting victims before they were taken to the hospital.
Crime Scene Evidence
Most of the gunfire seemed to have taken place on the Cottage Way side of the park close to the local Home Depot situated at the 2200 block of Howe Home Depot Sacramento shooting Ave. CSI personnel recovered further ballistic evidence in the form of shell casings throughout the Cottage Way area. Ballistic damage were also found in the metal fencing alongside the Home Depot store. These findings pointed to that at least one shooter had been discharging rounds toward the south from Cottage Way targeting the Home Depot store. The Home Depot was put under lockdown during the incident. CSI units alongside detectives stayed at the location through the early morning hours.

Information relayed through law enforcement radio communications indicated that a vehicle identified as a Kia was pulled over in Solano County California. Four suspects were stopped and detained. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to Solano County to bring the suspects back for further questioning. Surveillance footage showed that two shooters had been involved.
